Flaking

Flaking Grains serves a multitude of industries and applications. Ferrell Ross has decades of experience in many applications such as cereal, oilseeds, steam flaking, etc. The robust and proven design of Ferrell Ross machines has proven to perform for just about any application that requires flaking. Cereal flaking is a thermo-mechanical process that transforms grains or dough into thin, crispy flakes using exclusive Ferrell ross designs. The prepared grit passes through the smooth faced rolls. The Ferrell Ross proprietary hydraulic system applies high roll pressure to produce a desired consistent flake thickness. The human cereal science is very similar to the steam flake where the process affects grain starches, enhancing digestibility; therefore creating the signature flavor you know in your cereal flake.

Cracking Mill

The Ferrell-Ross single-high and two-high roller mills are engineered for dependable, consistent performance in single or multi-stage reduction of free-flowing granular products. With an extensive selection of corrugated roll configurations, these mills offer exceptional grinding flexibility and precise control over finished particle size. This enables operators to achieve targeted mesh sizes, enhance process efficiency, and maintain consistent product quality.

Our roller mills are built to serve a wide range of industries and applications, each benefiting from our commitment to durability and technical excellence. Ferrell-Ross chilled cast rolls provide superior hardness and compressive strength, delivering long service life even under demanding pressure. Standard roll hardness ranges from 48–54 Rockwell C, with optional higher-hardness or bi-metal stainless rolls available to meet specialized requirements.

Vertical Cooler

The Ferrell-Ross Coolers are an entirely unique concept in-cooler design. Constructed with a series of slow moving baffles that cause the product to cascade from one baffle to the next, tumbling in a very gentle manner as it flows through the cooler. This continuous, gentle turning of the product creates complete and uniform cooling, and virtually eliminates all flake or pellet breakage.

This cooler contains no screens or perforated metal that would require frequent cleaning and replacement. All internal baffles are made of 3/16” plate for long life. The eccentrics that drive the baffles are of Daycolube, which has a low friction, and wear characteristics. The eccentric’s shafts ride in permanently sealed and lubricated ball bearings that require no maintenance. The baffle eccentrics are driven by a 1 HP 230 volt gear motor through a 50 SDS roller chain.
